Etsy fee calculator
Estimate Etsy listing fees, 6.5% transaction charges, payment processing, and net profit margins.
Same jumper, two fee models: seller commission versus buyer-side protection.
Updated 2026-09-07.
Vinted’s UK price list charges Buyer Protection to the buyer (typically 3–8% plus £0.30–£0.80). The seller keeps the listed price on a standard sale. Etsy charges the seller: listing, 6.5% of item plus shipping charged, payment processing, and the UK regulatory line.
That does not mean Vinted is always higher profit. Buyers see a higher checkout total on Vinted. Etsy buyers see the listed price plus postage you chose, while you eat the fee stack. Conversion and postage still decide the listing.
| Etsy UK (seller pays) | Vinted UK (buyer pays protection) | |
|---|---|---|
| Listing | Fixed listing fee per item | Free |
| Sale fee | 6.5% of item + shipping charged | £0 seller commission |
| Payments | 4% + £0.20 | Inside buyer protection |
| You receive | Gross minus Etsy lines | The listed price |
| Buyer extra | Postage you set | Protection band + postage |
On Vinted, payout is £18. Mid protection estimate 5% + £0.70 is £1.60, so a buyer paying £2.99 postage sees about £22.59. On Etsy, if you charge £18 + £2.99 postage, gross is £20.99 and the 6.5% + processing + listing + regulatory come off your side.
Run both calculators with the same item cost and packaging. Then pack for Large Letter if you can: the Royal Mail step to Small Parcel is often larger than the gap between these two fee models.
Search traffic, gift buyers, and made-to-order crafts are Etsy’s market. Vinted is second-hand clothing at volume. Fees are not the only variable. This comparison is the money-out-of-the-sale question only.
